Find Books

VTC Library Catalogue on the WWW provides an effective means of access to the collections, which include books, audio-visual materials, periodicals and other materials held by the VTC Libraries.

PEAK collection is mainly catered for PEAK members and staff. VTC staff may check out this type of collection by walk-in loan but cannot hold / request PEAK materials via online.

Through our online catalogue, you can search for library materials, renew library loans or place holds on the library materials in all campuses as well as at home. Click either one of the links below to access the English or Chinese version of iPac.

In order to access your library record, you need to have a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and the default PIN for all students and full-time staff is the first 4-digit of the HKID Number. Please contact your library staff if you are not clear about your PIN.

Online Catalogue

Users may search library holdings including books, AV materials, periodicals and electronic resources through the online catalogue by author, title, subject, keyword and other search options.   It displays useful information like item location, call number, availability and due date.  It also provides instant hyperlinks to electronic resources produced or subscribed by the VTC Library.  By using the Library Online Catalogue, users may reserve library materials online if they are not immediately available.  Moreover, users may also renew their loans or identify the number of items on loan to them.

LIBRARY BOOKS SHELVING ARRANGEMENT
Call Numbers are a combination of letters and Arabic numerals. They are assigned to library materials in accordance with the Library of Congress Classification Scheme. By means of such numbers, books with similar subjects are grouped and shelved together, alphabetically by main class and subclass followed by numerical division, subdivision and author numbers. When class numbers are exactly the same, books are shelved according to author numbers, publication date, volume number and copy number. Both Chinese and English materials are inter-shelved.

EXAMPLE:
Environmental Technology is under the class TD.
TD = Environmental Technology ------ Main class and Subclass
645 = General Works, 1800- ----------- Division and Subdivision
.W293 = Wastewater engineering ------------- Author/Title numbers
2014 --------------------------------------------------- Publication date
v.1 -------------------------------------------------------------- Volume
c.2 ------------------------------------------------------- Copy number

Except for the book circulation collection, some call numbers include a location code prefix indicating where the items are shelved. Some examples of the location codes are as follows:
AV…… Audio-visual Collection
PER…. Periodicals Collection
QTO… Quarto (Oversize) Collection
REF…. Reference Collection
